Two years ago, my husband bought me a DSLR camera for Mother’s Day. When we were dating, I always talked about wanting to learn photography…something I had wanted to do since I was in high school. So, he surprised me with a brand new Nikon D3300 camera, and a series of photography classes. This has been one of the greatest gifts I have ever received.

Having a quality DSLR camera, knowing how to use it, and how to take great pictures has really change the way I document our life. And, while DSLR cameras are a bit expensive, I have already saved so much money because I have been able to take photos of my sons, my husband, and our entire family, on my own. I have so many great tips and tricks to share with you.

You can see the difference in my photos:

In this series of articles, I’ll cover the basic photography equipment you will need to get started, natural lighting, creating your own at home photo studio, and ways to learn and refine your photography skills, further.

Photography For Moms Series:

Of course professional photographers are amazing, and it is always great to be able to hire someone to capture special moments and events. At the same time, if you are interested in photography, if you want to be able to capture those beautiful moments with your family on a day-to-day basis, I strongly encourage you to do it–get yourself a quality camera and learn to use it!
