This year I was on a mission. A mission to give Christmas gifts that were handmade AND useful. This is always a bit of a challenge, since my gift recipients vary in age, lifestyle, interests…etc. I came across a recipe for Whipped Coconut Oil Body Butter. Living in Colorado, we often suffer from dry skin. This recipe would be a great gift! Especially since coconut oil is an amazing moisturizer. It absorbs well. It is all natural. And a little goes a LONG way! So, I decided to try it out! But instead of following the recipe “as is,” I decided to add some essential oils to make a refreshing and nourishing foot creme. Here is what I did…
What you will need:
Coconut oil (20 oz)
Peppermint Essential Oil (30 Drops)
Large Bowl and Mixer
Note: Make sure that your coconut oil is stored at room temperature. Mine was a little too cold when I started.
Step One: Empty the coconut oil into a large bowl. Even at room temperature, coconut oil tends to be very firm.
Step Two: Use your mixer to blend the coconut oil. Since mine was too firm to begin, I used a fork to mash and soften the oil. This made blending it a bit easier. If you have a stand mixer, this will be MUCH easier for you! I am pretty sure there are chunks of coconut oil on my kitchen ceiling.
Step Three: Add essential oils. Because I used an entire 20 oz tub of coconut oil, I added roughly 30 drops of peppermint oil to the mixture. Blend well on high until the entire mixture has a pudding-like consistency.
Step Four: Add to containers and add a label. One jar filled two 12 oz mason jars. I like to include ingredients, just in case someone has a sensitivity to something I have used in the foot creme! I also like to include directions. A little bit of coconut oil really does go a long way!
I used jute to fasten my handwritten tags to Mason jars.
I am including this Peppermint Foot Creme as part of a basket of goodies! Check out the other recipes I tried!
