Finally my March Birchbox has arrived. In February, my handsome husband gifted me with a year-long subscription for Birchbox. This is possibly one of the best gifts, ever. I mean, nothing beats a box full of beauty surprises each month!
The theme for this month is “Creativity.” I was pleasantly surprised by this months samples.
amika Bombshell Blowout Spray, retail $24.00
This was my choice item from the March box. This blowout spray is designed to create shine, lift and softness as well as heat protection. This product smells amazing, and the smell lasts all day. I definitely notice the shine, and the additional body. I really like the product, but I am not sure that it provides enough benefits to justify the $24.
Mirenesse Glossy Kiss, retail $22.00
Normally I am not a fan of lip color. Frankly, I don’t like my lips and I prefer not to accentuate them. I was pleasantly surprised by this product. The texture is more like a lip balm, than a lip stick. And the color I was sent, Angel Kiss, is a subtle pink that works great with my skin tone. I don’t see myself paying $22 for this lip color, but I am happy to have it in my makeup bag!
Harvey Prince Sincerely, retail $55.00 for 50ml
I don’t love fragrance samples. I find it incredibly difficult to find scents that I like, that work well with my body chemistry. So, when I opened my March Birchbox and saw this sample, I was skeptical. I was wrong. I really like “Sincerely.” It is a very clean scent that I could wear every day. It isn’t too heavy, and it definitely has lasting power. Even better, Birchbox sells an 8.8 ml bottle of this fragrance for only $26.00. That is a reasonable price tag. I may have to add this to my collection.
Cover FX Mattifying BB Gel, retail $45.00
I was super excited about this sample. Based on the product description, this should have been perfect for my oily skin. It touts itself as a BB gel, designed to prove a matte finish, build-able coverage, blemish treatment properties. That is exactly what I need! And then I tried the sample, in “N Light.” To begin, the color is lighter than light. It was chalky and white. And, it dried so quickly, it is impossible to rub it in completely. It was so bad, I had to wash it all off. And, for the price tag of $45.00, there is no way I could justify purchasing this BB Gel. Very disappointed in this one.
Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo, retail $32.00
This shampoo is nice. It smells really great, and it leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean. I prefer a shampoo that lathers a bit more, but I also understand that its not a “necessary” quality in a shampoo. If I needed a clarifying shampoo to use regularly, this would be a great option. I tend to stay away from clarifying often, however, as it can be incredibly drying to my hair. I don’t think I will be purchasing this shampoo, any time soon.
Number 4 Reconstructing Masque, retail $58.00
I love hair product samples. I especially love samples of conditioning products. This Number 4 Reconstructing Masque works well. After using this product twice (all the sample provided), my hair is noticeably softer and shinier. I also like that it wasn’t to heavy or oily, and it didn’t weigh my hair down. In my humble opinion, however, no conditioner is worth $58. Not one. I have already found a few, more affordable products that I love. I will be sticking with those.
So, there you have it. I am pleasantly surprised with the goodies in this month’s box. They have opened my eyes to a new fragrance options, to the idea of using lip color, and to a great new blowout spray. Now I will anxiously await the April box (patience is not my strong suit)!
