As I searched for ideas and recipes for my handmade Christmas gifts, I came across this recipe for Homemade Bath Salts on the Martha Stewart website. The recipe is very simple, and allows you to make your own Bath Salts, while adding a personal touch. This seemed like another gift that my friends and family would use and enjoy.
Essential Oil (I used lemongrass)
Jars or Containers
This is enough to fill about five 12 oz mason jars.
Now here are the super easy directions. You will mix six parts epsom salts, three parts sea salt, one part baking soda, and a few drops of an essential oil of your choice. So, this is how I went about doing this:
I used Mason jars for a few different reasons. They add character to the project, and they can be reused! There are also ounce notches on the jars, which make for easy measurements! I didn’t do exact measurements for this recipe. Instead I “eyeballed” it!
I filled the jars with approximately two thirds epsom salts, one third sea salt and topped the mixture off with baking soda. At this point, I screwed the lid on, and shook the mixture to combine all of the ingredients before I added the essential oils. I did this because I didn’t want the baking soda to get “chunky” when I added the oil. After the dry mixture was mixed well, I added fifteen to twenty drops of essential oil, and mixed again.
I then created tags with ingredients and instructions and fastened to the lid with jute. Easiest project ever.
